Exploring Burgos: The Kapurpurawan Rock Formation

Tuesday, September 20, 2016 Burgos, Ilocos Norte, Philippines

The Kapurpurawan Rock Formation is the most stunning place I've seen in all of our Byaheng Ilocos adventures. It is a one-of-a-kind art created by nature herself. The stunning work-of-art is located on the rocky coast of Burgos, Ilocos Norte. It is known for its creamy white and streamlined limestone formations, which have been sculpted by different oceanic and weather forces, thus it is called Kapurpurawan, which is from the root word "Puraw" - a native word (Ilokano) that means pure or white.

After we strolled along the shores of Bangui Bay where the windmills can be seen, we ventured down the road again to finally visit the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation. The trip from Bangui to Burgos was about 25 minutes. The place was crowded when we arrived and so we waited for a little bit for the crowd to disperse.

At the site, you are given two options to reach the rock formation, you could either walk (for free) or pay a hundred pesos for a horse to take you there. We chose the latter since we wanted to try horseback riding. It was my first time! :D

Can you see it? :D
The ride was only for a short while and you can talk with the handler who will gladly tell you more about the place. We arrived at the rock and was told to remember our horse's name so that we can just say it to the handler in charge if we're ready to go back.

This was the view that greeted us.

The weather was perfect. It was sunny and a little bit windy and we just had the time of our lives taking photographs and having fun. I cannot go on describing the place because it is beyond words; and although the pictures do not give justice on how beautiful the place is, I will still let the photos do the talking. Prepare for a major photo dump. :D

We left pretty much after 2 hours of exploring under the sun, high from the bliss that the place had given us. I was a little woozy and very sunburnt but I was at my happiest and it was worth it!

And this is where I end my Byaheng Ilocos Series. My friends and I had tons and tons of fun traveling from one place to another, seeing the majestic beauty of the Philippines. It was our first barkada trip and I hope it won't be the last! I hope we can do it again sometime next year. (plans, plans, plans)

Here's a list of the series if you want to read it:

I will surely see more of the Philippines soon, and as much as I can! I loved writing these blog posts, remembering the feeling I had at those moments. I hope you guys, too, had fun reading it. ^_^

Till next time! :*
